One of the worst things for The Brain is to be forced to slow down. But that process of Entschleunigen (act of slowing down) is important for work life balance. So I am pondering this as we soon embark on the new academic year, different strategies for slowing down. Part of this is has been sorting, and clearing space: digital spaces, notes, bookmarks, office clear out etc. In this process I found this poem I drafted a while back and never published. I think this is a good way to slow down, during a lunch break, or while having a cuppa.
Go on a Micro Adventure
Micro adventures
With a friend or two
Or alone
Or your dog
Micro adventures
Just walk that path
Or roll or cycle
Slow or fast
Always wondered where this leads?
That path on the side, just off beat?
Just give it a go
Have a snoop
Go explore
And you might find little treasures
You didn’t know off before
A small grove of willows
Tucked quietly away
A docent purple lupins
Make a fragrant bouguet
A wooden bridge
Completely overgrown
Bright blooms escaped
From a garden unknown
Halt, rest, stop
Smell, see, feel, hear
Whatever works best
To bring you some cheer
Micro adventures
Are waiting for you
What are you wait for?
